High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Environmental Statement, Glossary, abbreviations and references, published by the Department for Transport in 2022, defines palaeoenvironmental remains as: ‘The organic remains of plants, animals and sediments which are studied in order to examine past environments and human interaction with past environments.’
